January Reset Checklist (Free Printable)

A two-page reset checklist for the start of the year: page one handles the home and the digital pile, page two handles money lines and the calendar. Everything fits one afternoon. The pages print as-is, they work on any date, and nothing on them expires on January 31st. The full 21-page New Year 2027 Reset Planner is on Getly, linked at the bottom.

How to use this page: print both pages, work page one top to bottom, then fill in the write-ins on page two. One rule: three checked boxes per session. The checklist is a starting point, and a half-done reset that actually happened beats a complete one that stayed on the counter.

Page 1: home reset

Eight spaces, one pass each, a checkbox and a date line per space. The spaces are generic on purpose: reset the version of each one that exists in your home, and skip any that don't. The last row is the honest one.

SpaceWhat counts as doneDate
Entrywayflat surfaces clear, shoes and coats where they belong
Kitchen countersnothing on them that has a cupboard
Pantry and fridgeexpired stuff out, one shelf wiped
Bathroomcounter clear, cabinet skimmed for empties
Closetone pass, one bag out the door
Living room surfacescoffee table and shelves back to holding, not stacking
Desk and paperworkone stack sorted: keep, toss, act
The spot you keep avoidingyou know the one. twenty minutes on it counts

The date line is the real tool. A reset is easy to redo forever; a date on paper settles it and moves you to the next space.

Page 1: digital reset

Six tasks, all on the devices you already carry. None of them need a free weekend, and one of them usually saves more time than the whole home list.

TaskWhat counts as done
Inbox zero attemptunsubscribing from five lists counts as progress
Phone photos backupcheck the last backup date first, then run one
Downloads foldersort it, delete the bulk, keep almost none of it
Unused appsdelete what went untouched since fall
Recurring calendar eventsthe weekly ones carried over from last year: still true?
Passwordsupdate the one you keep resetting

Six tasks, not sixteen, because digital resets grow until they feel like projects. Close the laptop when the six are checked.

Page 2: money reset

Four write-in lines. The page lists what to write down; what to do about any of it stays your call. Writing the numbers first is what makes the rest of the year's decisions easier to see.

Subscriptions to review write them all down first, decide later
Yearly renewals landing this year insurance, domains, memberships, the quiet ones
Costs that changed since last year rent, plans, splits, anything that moved
One number you haven't checked in a while pick yours, write it as it is today

Page 2: calendar scan

Before adding anything new to January, see what the month already holds. Flip through the calendar and write each commitment on a line: appointments, trips, deadlines, people you promised, the thing you agreed to and forgot.

What January already holds

Five lines is the cap. A month with ten written commitments is already full, and the scan exists to show that before the month shows you.

Four tips, opinion not math

TipThe reasoning
Pick 3, not 30Three checked boxes are a reset. Thirty untouched ones are a list you start avoiding. Circle three spaces on page one and leave the rest for the reprint.
Twenty minutes per spaceSet a timer, work until it rings, stop. A space finished at 80% beats a space abandoned at 40% because the session ran out of daylight.
Write the date on each checkThe dates tell you which spaces drift back first. That pattern is the useful output, more than the tidy shelf.
Reprint wheneverThe same two pages work in July. Print a fresh copy each quarter and the reset becomes a rhythm instead of an event.

One honest note

The reset can start on any date. January is just the label on the file. The 5th, the 19th, or a Tuesday in March all work the same way, and nothing on these two pages checks the calendar before letting you tick a box.
